Belding and Carson City-Crystal have been added to the IM Kids 3rd Meal program.
The Ionia Montcalm (IM) Kids 3rd Meal program welcomed two more schools on February 23rd. The two schools that were added to the program were Carson City-Crystal and Belding. In Ionia County 1 in 5 children are food insecure and in Montcalm County 1 in 4 are food insecure. Each 3rd meal that is given to a food insecure child, is a well-balanced, ready-to-eat meal.
“We know that we live in a very high poverty county and knowing that we are able to be part of a community program that is being proactive to fight against hunger is an incredible opportunity,” stated Belding Area Schools Superintendent, Sara Shriver.
Alexis Shaver, Carson City-Crystal Elementary School, stated because of this program, “Children have the opportunity to receive a nutritious meal at home that will provide them the nutrients to concentrate and perform well at school.”
Tracy Nelson, Belding Area Schools, agreed with Shaver “It is delightful that the program is able to give back to local students by providing them with a third meal of the day.”
IM Kids 3rd Meal program is delighted to welcome these two new schools by serving 97 students in Carson City-Crystal and 48 students in Belding. We are now serving four schools; two schools in Ionia County and two schools in Montcalm County, with a total of roughly 500 food insecure children receiving 3rd meals.
This program is a success because of the support and partnerships we have from the community.Shriver said, “We are thankful to the community partners State Farm, GYAC, United Way, Ameriprise, AmeriCorps, Ionia County Community Foundation and any others who are sponsoring such a worthy initiative for our students.”
We need strong community support to keep this program running and reach even more students. For more information on how you or your company can support IM Kids 3rd Meal program, please call IM Kids 3rd Meal at 616-527-4900, email email@example.com or visit www.imkids.org.
