Who can collect more Independent or Mercantile?
Independent Bank and Mercantile Bank of Michigan offices in Ionia County are doing their second competition drive to collect items for the Ionia Montcalm (IM) Kids 3rd Meal program.
The competition will be taking place from April 25th through May 20th. Independent Bank locations are collecting jelly and Mercantile Bank locations are collecting peanut butter, while both banks are collecting cash donations for bread.
Both banks were eager to hold the friendly competition drive again this year. Boomer Hoppough, VP at Independent Bank, stated their goal for this year’s drive is, “Continuing to raise awareness for this great cause, while having a positive impact on the children receiving these meals.”
In Ionia County 1 in 5 children are food insecure and in Montcalm County 1 in 4 are food insecure. Good nutrition is one of the most important and basic needs in the development of our kids. Each 3rd meal that is given to a food insecure child, is a well-balanced, ready-to-eat meal.
Brian Talbot, SVP at Mercantile Bank of Michigan, is ready to once again spread the word (and the peanut butter) to help fight childhood hunger. Talbot stated, “Mercantile Bank is passionate about supporting our community and this is a fun and friendly way to bring awareness to the serious issue of ending childhood hunger.”
IM Kids 3rd Meal is serving four schools; two schools in Ionia County and two schools in Montcalm County, with a total of roughly 472 food insecure children receiving 3rd meals.
Hoppough said, “Wondering where the next meal is coming from should never have to be a concern of any child.” Talbot agreed stating, “Our youth are such an important part of the success of our community and that is why we are happy to support IM Kids 3rd Meal with the Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive.”
We need strong community support to keep this program running and reach even more students. For more information on how you or your company can support IM Kids 3rd Meal program, please call IM Kids 3rd Meal at 616-527-4900, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.imkids.org.
